The swelling has gone down a little, but the eye is still watering a lot, and the vision in that eye is a little blurry... which I think will clear up once the swelling no longer distorts the eye.

dbird.... I have a suggestion for you. A bunch of years ago I got one of those stupid magnetic/ionic plastic bracelets, which are supposed to help your balance. Before I got it, I was infamous for being able to trip over a blade of grass and fall. I didn't believe that a gizmo so simple could possibly help my balance and keep me from falling until it was demonstrated to me that they work. I don't know why they work. I don't believe that they should work. BUT THEY WORK. I buy the Sabona™ brand ones on Amazon. I very rarely fall now, and only if I'm pushed or tripped, and even then I usually catch my balance. The difference is amazing.

Bubble

I have most people's names written down to avoid renaming them but am running out of paper. ꓚꔚꓛ

PutterDutt

Now why haven't I re-named Deb yet???

I have done that twice.

Bubble

@dbird
Sorry Deb I called you Donna by mistake, my bad. ꓚꔚꓛ

Bubble

@dbird
Donna I think more people hurt themselves tripping up kerbs than anywhere else.
Have done it myself and a relative in England has been pulled over by his dog and slipped on ice and fallen over a bollard, injured himself badly and many breakages.

Take it easy for a couple of days as more aches and pains may come out.
Feel better soon. ꓚꔚꓛ

Sharon72

I hope you won't be stiff and sore tomorrow.

@Surreal_Heidi @ Putterdutt @Sharon72 @Bubble
Y'all won't believe this. I fell AGAIN today. And I forgot my bubble wrap. I was guiding Keith around a puddle in a parking lot and tripped on the curb 🤦‍♀️😦😢😢😢😢😢. I landed on my poor knees and then fell over onto the curb. You oughtta see my left thigh - rainbow bruises! I'm going to wrap my car, my house, and ME and then I'm gonna stay in bed where maybe I'm safe. Or not....
😉😂🤣 But my black is looking better.

@Surreal_Heidi @ Putterdutt @Sharon72 @Bubble
Wasn't there a movie where someone wrapped themselves in bubble wrap?

Sharon72

@dbird. Yes, we should really start a club. One or more of us might be pretty colorful at one time or another and we could make matching outfits out of bubblewrap.

PutterDutt

:o)

Ellen, this sounds perfect to me!

PutterDutt

Yeah. We can call it "Gravity is NOT my friend".

@Sharon72,
But you should have seen the other guy!
We should all start a club!
Deb

Bubble

Oh Sharon, what a disastrous accident, why was that old console just sat there waiting for you, and your unfaithful rocker chair just looking for a chance to pitch you at the tv.
Seriously though you have come through a horrible ordeal and just happy you recovered with nowt but a scar and some unused bubble wrap.
I've had some crazy accidents as well and who hasn't ! Keep safe. ꓚꔚꓛ

mycat1

Hope there isn't a shortage of bubble wrap, you guys all need it. Hugs to all with bumps, bruises, and black eyes.

Sharon72

Did your vision clear up? I seem to remember that your eye examination showed a problem. I have to share how graceful I am. Got up from my rocker recliner too fast once by using the rocker motion. The footrest caught my heel between it and floor, breaking my foot and tossing me headfirst into tube of old console tv. Shattered upper right arm on sharp edge of tv trying to stop my fall. Hit the tube face first splitting my forehead open, giving me a huge lump, two black eyes and blood running down my face. Had to call fire department to get me off floor. At the hospital a policeman came in to interview me. I don't think he believed that my chair and tv conspired to try to kill me. 7 years later I still have scar through eyebrow. Two friends gave me bubble wrap as a gag to cheer me up.

@Bubble,
Oh, hahahahaha, that's perfect! I'm going to use that - thanks very much.
Deb

Bubble

@dbird
all you have to say when someone exclaims at your shiner is ......
'you should have seen the other guy' ꓚꔚꓛ

@PutterDutt
Very Funny - except I'm the (not so little) old lady, and I got run over by ME!!!
Now to find a way to re-describe this mess so I don't come across as a complete dummy! OOH, I know - I got into a fight with the UPS guy cause my package was late, so he smacked me in the head with it and punched me in the eye. How does that sound? Deb

PutterDutt

You need to make up a better story, Deb. You got the shiner while rescuing a little old lady from being run over by a careless motorist or something that doesn't involve being a klutz. :o)

@Surreal-Heidi @dhi @PutterDutt
Hahahahah about the bubble wrap! 'm going to the UPS store to order about 20 yards of bubble wrap. I'm going to wrap it round and round, then I'll just bounce no matter where I land!
Day 12. Lump on forehead is getting much smaller, and purple/maroon eye is finally fading a little bit. Went to pharmacy yesterday and she asked if I was ok. I didn't know what she meant at first. But when I told her I fell on my stupid head I don't think she believed me. Bless her heart, she probably thinks somebody at home clobbered me.

Link_balloon1988

lol PD bubble wrap is for the snowflakes(millennials) we just grin and bear the pain but at least we have a verycool story to go along with our battle scars....so no bubble wrap...been there done that....i was high at the time cos i tried a jont once just to document what it was like

julie88

New picture please......Heidi. julie

Surreal_Heidi

Debbie.... the bruise went away after a little over 3 weeks. I still have a small lump at the point of impact with the metal eye bolt on the post.

Agreed Bubble.

dhi

I hear you @Bubble

julie88

I'm with Bubble. Stick!

Bubble

Donna, its so easy to do and so scary when it happens. Glad you didn't have any more serious injuries.
I take my trusty stick when I go out for walks now, just to be on the safe side. Don't use it much but its a third leg ! ( ❛ ͜ʖ ❛ )

dhi

@dbird, a similar thing happened to me while wearing cross on wearing them for the very first and they became a donation in nearly an hour. I hope your recovery is complete.

PutterDutt

Bubble wrap. Lots and lots of bubble wrap!!

Oh Heidi, what are we going to do with ourselves???

@dhi
Long story short, I'm a klutz! 😢😢
I was stepping up on my front step (about 6 inches), bent over to pick up a package, my foot slipped out of my croc, fell forward and landed on my upper left forehead. This was Wed. 9/29. I got a really nice goose egg almost immediately. Then on Friday I woke up with this beautiful black eye (now maroon). A week later, still have bump and black eye. Yuck! Thankfully, the eye didn't swell much at all, just turned technicolor.😢😢😢 I do think the bump is a little smaller today.😊😊😊

Link_balloon1988

so post of pic all healed up...i hope theres no permanent damage

dhi

Bruises can take a day or two to fully 'ripen' before the blood starts to break up at the bruise. I am wondering if you can give us an update on what happen and hope that all worked out okay.

PutterDutt

From my experience, going from black to maroon is a step in the right direction, but Heidi will know better.

Hi Surreal_Heidi,
I got mixed up between you and Ellen and asked her this question:
When you got your beautiful shiner last summer (?) how long did it take to go away? Mine went from my eyebrow to my eyelid, and to an inch outside my eye. It has changed from black to maroon, but hasn't gotten much smaller. It is now about 1/2 inch below my eyebrow, but has spread to about an inch below my eye. Rats!

Surreal_Heidi

In this picture (Day 3), it's much more swollen (especially where the line from the end of the eyebrow meets the line formed by the eye opening, where the bolt hit) and the color intensity is deeper, but nowhere as spread out as today. The swelling really doesn't show up much here, but the lump was rock hard.

Bubble

Looks a lot better - your skin heals up well Heidi ( ❛ ͜ʖ ❛ )

Got it,

Surreal_Heidi

I just posted a Day 7 pic.

This was not a good thing. It will get better,

mauismom

so glad to hear it's getting better. i wish you could be more careful, but you can't live in a bubble. please take care. :) Penny

Bubble

Glad its going down and no damage Heidi.

Hope when you went into town you had an opportunity to tell people 'you should have seen the other guy' 😎

God, you are sooooo lucky, Heidi!!!!! ; ))

Link_balloon1988

well thats good news...hope you feel better

Surreal_Heidi

All appears fine. Just lots of bruising and swelling.

PutterDutt

So, Heidi??? What did the doctor say????????????????????????????

Surreal_Heidi

It's only a 12 minute drive, fortunately. And my other eye is my dominant eye.

Mischka

My dear, good luck! Do you have a driver to get you to the doctor?

@PutterDutt, thank you and hugs - I hope that Heidi didn't mind! Lol! It's all meant with love.

Watchman

Ouch! I hope that all will be OK.

Surreal_Heidi

Slept in this morning. Whe I got up and looked in the mirroe, I was surprised that the dark color has spread over the full eyelid. I leave for town in 1 hour and WILL see the eye doctor after dropping off the truck. They can give me a loaner while they work on my truck.

PutterDutt

Just saw your comment from an hour ago, Mischka. You broke me up with Heidi's new title. :o)

julie88

Update us Heidi, julie.

mycat1

Take care and hopefully you heal quickly.

Mischka

@nanab, I think you speak for all of us!

Mischka

A few of these anecdotes remind me that I gave myself a black eye once, in the 2000s. I was in a swivel chair, and swiveled over to pick up a paper on the ground, but the armrest did not swivel with the rest of the chair. I was already lunging toward the paper when my face hit the edge of the armrest.

It did not cause any damage to my eye, only to the bones around it, but somewhere here I have a photo of me, in my cowgirl hat and a shiner; I'll see if I can dig it up.

Not that I'm competing, @Surreal_Heidi, you understand! You reign supreme as Champion of Surviving Horrific Bovine Assaults and Batteries this year.

Jumble

Ouch, that still looks nasty, it's good to know you're going to see the eye doctor just to be sure all is OK.

nanab

Glad to hear that you'll see a doctor, I don't like to nag - I will do it relentlessly, but I don't like it. : )

Mischka

I'm with @girlinaglass92. Please keep posting progress reports, k?

hippo

Yup, good thinking. Last time I did something like this I was fine, but it was good to know I was fine.

Good decision, Heidi. Saves us all from hounding you for life! ; ))))
Let us know what he says, please.

mauismom

OMG! i'm glad you'll have the eye doc look at it. let us know how it's doing. get some rest in the meantime. take care and hugs. Penny

mariolyn

Good. Proves what a reasonable woman you are. And reassuring, if not for you, at least for us worriers.

PutterDutt

That's good. Thanks, Heidi!

Link_balloon1988

ouch

CathyTxDJ

Good to hear.

Surreal_Heidi

OK, folks. I have to go to town tomorrow to get my truck fixed. I'll stop and visit my eye doctor.

Sharon72

It is a pretty color, but we are still all worried about you.

The post always wins

julie88

You have my complete sympathy, Heidi. I fell on my face 6 months ago and knocked my front teeth loose. Had to have them braced so they would re-attach. They didn't hurt, buy I went to the dentist anyway. I could have lost them. You should see a doctor, just in case. Hugs, julie.

Heidi that looks awful. You could have a detached retina. I fell over the doorway. My eye was bruised just like yours. The doctor said I could have lost it . But all was well but the fall could have caused a detached retina. Be careful.

morepiecesplz

I thought of you today - this saves me looking up your old puzzle. Have you seen a doctor? That color isn't good. Keep us posted.

dhi

That looks quite awful, please take care.

CathyTxDJ

Oh, you poor woman :(

Kalola

Good, God! You could've lost that eye, Heidi. Hope it's not as painful as it looks.
