Why are you reporting this puzzle?

This is a recent picture of Hunter. He's a small male (I prefer the smaller Alpacas) with a gentle disposition and a massive libido. All my girls are swooning over him like he's the Alpaca version of Jason Momoa. I'm beginning to think getting him was one of my smartest purchases ever.

ParsonWayne

So THIS is Cocoa's father. He's a rather handsome dad. Cocoa looks a lot like him.

Congratulations on being a father!

redina1

He looks pretty proud of himself.

ParsonWayne

Thank you, Heidi.

Surreal_Heidi

A fair price for a male alpaca with his excellent quality of fleece is a few thousand. I got a better deal buying several at once.

ParsonWayne

I'm not asking what YOU paid, Heidi, but what is a fair price for a young Alpaca?

Surreal_Heidi

I've got the 3 new ones home. Hunter is my favorite. He has a wonderful disposition.... and a great libido. He bred London on the way home! Noel is already 2 months pregnant by a different male.

PutterDutt

I need a fun adventure like that! :o)

Surreal_Heidi

I wish you could come with me, Ellen and Fiona. I think you would both enjoy visiting the alpaca farm.

PutterDutt

Safe trip to all 2 legged and 4 legged travelers.

hippo

It will all be worth it!!

Surreal_Heidi

UPDATE: I'm picking up the new alpacas in 48 hours from now!!!!

Mischka

@Surreal_Heidi, I should pay you tutoring fees!

@hippo, that's a lovely photo. I had no idea...

peasterberg

Now there's a horse of a different color!

Surreal_Heidi

And horses come in more colors than alpacas do.

Surreal_Heidi

Alpacas are becoming one of the most popular small farm animals. They're gentle and easy to manage. Children can safely get involved with the flock with little danger to them., so they make a wonderful family hobby. And alpaca shows are fun for the family, too. They have a huge range of colors (they rarely breed true to parents unless you're breeding white to white. ... and even those can throw a colored cria) and the fleeces are valuable. A full fleece can weigh 9 - 11 lbs on average, and they start at about $100 a fleece, and go up, depending on quality. (In contrast, an average sheep fleece sells for $3, unless they're a top wool breed like Merino.) They're 3 times warmer than wool, softer by far, and completely hypoallergenic.

hippo

We have the biggest alpaca farm in Europe a mile from where I live. Here is a photo of a few of their brood...

Mischka

Thank you, Heidi!

I didn't realize how many you have, though you did warn us. Each one sounds beautiful! Do they run true to their parents, usually?

Are alpacas trainable? Or is it all about the wool?

And a hundred other questions. Gee, @hippo, it seems that alpacas outnumber horses in the color category, at least.

Kidding. I'm realizing how little I knew about them, including the length of their legs. Thanks for introducing me to a whole 'nother species, Heidi!

Surreal_Heidi

Here are 2 older puzzles of mine showing the differences between Llamas and Alpacas.

They're related, and can interbreed, but the Llama is descended from the wild Guanaco and the Alpaca is descended from the wild Vicuña.

Surreal_Heidi

Mischka... Alpacas come in a huge range of colors and mix of colors. I'm most partial to the fawns (Hunter is a medium Fawn, Noel is a light fawn and my Barbie is a wild fawn.... almost Vicuña colored) and chocolates (my girl Skipper is a medium chocolate). Each color comes in many different shades. I also have Julie, a black ,and Zoe and Ginnie, medium grays. London is a light rose gray. Noel has been bred to Samuel (not mine) who's a dark rose gray.

Minibank

Welcome dear jamal

JamaLlama

@Minibank, thx anyway, butt I'm not much in2 Alpacas, just llamas...they sort of look the same, butt Llamas are meaner than the sweet Alpacas & I like a good spitting llama, *LOL* and Alpacas are a lot smaller than Llamas 2...Ewe are sweet 4 thinking about me though :)

Mischka

@hippo - LOL! I know how ridiculous I can be... :-D

hippo

Color schemes! LOL :))

Minibank

@JamaLlama

Mischka

Thanks for introducing them. I did ask for their names, didn't I. :-) What a lovely family. How many color schemes do they come in?

bowlakeboy

PutterDutt said it well!

ParsonWayne
