I missed the party! (Due to wifi issues last few days) So let me say, "Happy Birthweek, Andy!" I hope the day itself was great...with or without fireworks---but I'm at least hoping without too many!

Andy here's some fun - i can't send you the stuff but here's my recipe for glow-in-the-dark bubbles...
1 gal warm water
1 Tbsp "j-lube" powder (ask your local vet - you can also use "personal lube" but that
is silly-expensive and if you have a nice vet they might/should just give
some to you - after all it's your Birthday!)
1 cup of dish soap
2 TBSP baking powder (wont dissolve completely... no worries)
a handful of non-toxic glow sticks, or non-toxic glow-in-the-dark kidsafe paint

Mix up and let set in the sun in glass jars. Wait for the dark and have fun!

Fireworks are illegal here, not that you could tell. All the dogs and cats, and doubtless most other critters are terrified. The collateral damage and suffering are high price to pay for the selfish indulgence of the knotheads who inflict their childish behavior on their neighbors.

Poor Ivy. That sounds familiar. I have a friend who says he trained his dogs not to be afraid of loud noises, and hence they were never afraid of lightning, fireworks, vacuums, etc. No idea how he did it.

I've never tried a thundershirt for Ivy, but now that the fireworks are almost over, I'm betting that if I put her in her winter vest, it'd accomplish the same thing. For the past couple of hours, she has spent her time going from Jack to me to the corner under the tv table to underneath another side table then repeat—again and again. :-/

I know what you mean Andy, the first snapper goes off and Stonewall and I are in the house and he is Mr Underfoot Dog. Since the party was at my house last night all I could do is watch them from the upstairs window and comfort Stonewall. 80 lbs of lovable pitbull.

This is quite a wondrous turnout.

The fireworks have indeed been a wonderful add on to my celebration over the years. I do enjoy a great pyrotechnic show and I even got to help on a fireworks barge one July 4th down in the Finger Lakes - a real highlight. But it's very hard on the dogs that I now have, so I'll be heading out to the quiet boonies in an hour or so, The Schenectady area where I live treats the holiday as an OBLIGATION to celebrate with lots of fireworks, with every neighborhood resembling a war zone throughout the evening. We'll come back after midnight when thing have calmed down enough. But a quiet evening stroll along the Mohawk River will be just the ticked for all of us.
