Why are you reporting this puzzle?

Making cloth masks. I have 4 finished (like the kitten one at the bottom) and 28 more cut out. I already sent 2 each to Sierra and Jacob (grandchildren in their 20's). Elastic (like TP) is impossible to get so I use ribbon which I have in abundance as well as fabric. They are the fitted kind that go up over your nose and under your chin. I took better pics with my camera but jigidi wouldn't take them - said the file was too big, sooo.... in desperation I lay them on my printer and scanned them to my computer...AND IT WORKED !!!! I was ready to tear my hair out - what little I have left LOL!
Of course, they are not medical grade but help a lot when combined with staying 6 ft. apart and washing hands. I knew there was a reason I hoarded so much fabric all these years!!!

I've since found that they don't have to curve under the chin but can just go straight down and that helps with the fogging problem. Also, I cut the thin metal strip out of my used paper masks and sew them into the nose bridge part of my cloth masks. You can use twist ties too...from bread packages or from produce purchase bags.

Myhhrmaid

You have such a variety of fabric. I like that. And you are so creative to think of scanning the masks on your printer! I delighted reading that solution. ❤️

I bought yards of fabric for masks last spring... made about 10 masks, but have folks asking for them again. You inspire me to get back at the sewing machine. I use ties, also, because of elastic being a bit scarce. I like the idea of having it come under the chin, but wonder if it makes the glasses fog over more. My glasses get so foggy!

nanapuzzler

Thank you Thatgirlnoni!

@nanapuzzler
Great job

nanapuzzler

So glad you liked them @u2walkn3 :)) I stopped making them in the summer when demand dropped off (I give them away). I'm back making them again.
Merry Christmas and a Healthy Happy New Year *!*

u2walkn3

By this Christmas season, you must have made a bunch of masks, since this puzzle dates back to the early days of COVID-19:)
Loved this puzzle and love your masks, thank you for both:)
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

nanapuzzler

Good answer!!!

It's part of a parents job to embarrass your kids.
I truly love my sons.
But from the ages 14 to 17...not as much as I wanted to..
My younger son was particularly mouth one day...yes, believe it or not we had words...
He angrily asked me why I "always" embarrass him.
I quietly told him that it was a "gift", and that I wanted to excel at it.
He looked at me and laughed his head off.

nanapuzzler

That's the spirit!! When I was in my 30's, my best friend and I were at the drug store with our daughters. A favorite oldies song came on and we were dancing and singing down the isle! Our daughters were mortified and said "We don't know them" LOL!!

Donnajames

Okay, okay, if you can't beat 'em...join 'em! Let's go gang, I'm ready!!!! :-)) dj

nanapuzzler

@Donnajames Instead of chaperoning, why not join in the fun?? We aren't going to do anything bad - just be crazy silly and not care what ANYONE thinks*!* At my age I am entitled to not have to be "proper"!

Donnajames

heh**heh**possibly! I tried chaperoning Nancy and Birgit when they were trying to find Romeo and they kept telling me to get lost!!! How rude! hahahaha dj

Do I suspect a challenge????

Donnajames

@nanapuzzler - Nancy, not YOU!!! heh heh At least we could see eye to eye for a change instead of always looking up at people. hahaha (Both 5'2") Can you imagine if the three of you lived on the same street the nightmare I would have chaperoning all of you!!!!! aarrruuuggghhhhh!!!!! :-)) dj

nanapuzzler

I would LOVE that!! The older I get, the ornerier I get***

Why don't you, Barbara and I life on the same street!!!
What fun we would have...and trouble we would cause!!!

nanapuzzler

The nice part is that they are washable and for extra protection you can put a coffee filter inside just before you put it on. If we get round 2 like expected, you will need to make a couple for yourself. Stay well my friend****

You are a wonder!
I thought I had to get some anti-plague fabric.
Thank you!

nanapuzzler

Hi @moshmaster Nancy!! I used whatever I had: soft dish drying towels, some White knit fabric, some gray lining material, an old sheet or pillowcase etc. You can do like Matthew McConaughey and use a coffee filter. See DIY MASK BOBBY-B Style on youtube.
Thank you and Big Hugs back to you!!

What do you use for the liners?
Yours are beautiful.
Blessings!

nanab

You are very welcome @Mooro4 , I'm glad you enjoyed it.

nanab

You're welcome brightie. (-‿-) ♡

brightspark

Oh dear nana you are an angel - bless you ♥♥♥ thanks for the links dear rob and nannab - So moving as always and just beautiful ♥♥♥3

nanab

I'll bet you made their day, good for you nana! It feels so good to help others.

nanapuzzler

The best part of the trip was that I was able to give out 5 of the masks I made. 2 elderly (look at me calling them elderly when I'm 73) ladies were soooo happy to get them because they don't sew.

nanab

I'm so pleased that you enjoyed it, glad it helped to de-stress you nana. (°ᴗ°) ♡

nanapuzzler

Dear @nanab Thank you so much for the link to the Bird Opera**!** I really needed that today after a stressful trip to town for groceries. You're a gem!

nanab

You're welcome!

Myhhrmaid

Oh my!!!! It’s like Ode to Joy by birds. Thank you. I loved it. :D)))))

Myhhrmaid

I listened on my cell phone too. :))

Myhhrmaid

I had tears through the whole concert. Tissues are a great idea.

nanapuzzler

Thanks @Myhhrmaid and @robf for telling Michelle where to find it!! I am going to watch it again - tissue in hand- as it is so beautiful***

robf

Ah @Myhhrmaid, thank you so much.

YouTube overheats my laptop these days. I think it's the virus checker (how ironic) working harder and harder as new threats keep being added to their database. So I couldn't watch more than 5 minutes before my CPU temperature rose above 80C, in the red zone.
But if you right-click on the concert window you'll be able to Copy the Link. Which I did, and will watch on my cellphone; it just doesn't overheat.
Also of course, once we have that link we can share it with others, and watch again and again as we feel the need.

Bless you for finding and sharing this link so quickly. May you and yours stay safe, protected and encouraged until the crisis is over. ♥♥♥♫☼

@brightspark
Above is the address I got when I googled his name and Easter concert. It’s there. Just thought I’d let you know you don’t have to wait a week.
Enjoy. :))

robf

@brightspark, I'll be looking for this concert on YouTube. It's almost certain to be posted before the week is out... we could watch it "together"!

Thanks so much for letting us know, np!

brightspark

i am so sad i missed Andrea Boccelli as i love him xxxx sending loving hugs and easter blessings to you my dear friend ♥♥♥♥

nanapuzzler

@brightspark Michelle, I found lots of different patterns online, & since elastic is sold out everywhere, You can use shoelaces or ribbon or make straps from fabric. Humans can be very creative in times like this. have you seen some of the songs on youtube about corona?? Hilarious and VERY creative. They use very famous song tunes and put new words to it.
I didn't puzzle at all yesterday. I sewed masks, fixed a simple dinner and watched a live-stream on youtube of Andrea Bocelli singing in a gorgeous cathedral in Italy. He sang Ave Maria (which I love) and 3 other songs in Italian. It was only him, his organist and the cameraman in the cathedral. Then he walked outside on the huge porch to a microphone and sang Amazing Grace. While he sang, they showed shots of Milan, Paris (the Eiffel Tower & the Arc de Triumph) London, and New York City Times Square - all vacant!!! I cried. It was like being punched in the stomach. It was comforting though, to know that millions and millions of people were watching at the same time and praying for this nightmare to end!!!!!!! I'm sure EVERYONE in Italy was watching as well as everyone who loves Andrea Bocelli's singing!

brightspark

i might have to make some too - we have about 7 medical masks left - (but i am not going out so could last) ☺☺☺☺ happy easter and god bless ♥♥

nanapuzzler

@Minibank This was my first batch.

davitai

I see, Nancy. That´s a good idea!

nanapuzzler

Thank you Taisia*!* You can tell that I like bright colored material. I have leftover material from all the clothes I've make my kids, grandkids and myself plus fabric I never used!!

davitai

Wow, Nancy, you are talented and handy! Your masks are original and very nice looking.
Taisia

nanapuzzler

Dear @sillychick Thank you!!!
and I appreciate what you do for me and other jigidiers...bending over backwards to find the puzzles we like and posting them every day in different sizes to suit our needs (or wants)**!** ♥♥

Dear oynot, please take care*!* Those muscle relaxers work too well :) I, too, am so glad you didn't break anything!! A hospital is not a good place to be now unless you have the virus. Hugs and prayers ♥♥

Isaly

Oh no Oynot. I made a comment on one of your puzzles asking you if you fell again. I see my answer here. I'm so glad you didn't break anything. Please take care of you.....

oynot

OOPS! I meant @nanapuzzler I have to blame this on once again muscle relaxers. Yep, this time a whole gallon of milk broke open, along with other items. I ended up on my back with my legs in the air and milk in my hair. Then I had fun cleaning it up without a mop :-( I think I have a mischievous gremlin following me around. Sending you big Texas size hugs your way @nanapuzzler :-)

sillychick

I am proud of you & for you @nanapuzzler. It is nice to not only feel useful, butt to do something useful. U go Twin :)

nanapuzzler

@Adam1618 Whoa!! I'm not that fast a seamstress and they are reusable/washable ;-)) Thank you for your kind comment!!!
@brightspark Thank you my friend. I'm only using what God gave me : knowing how to sew, an overabundance of materials and a love of my fellow humans****

brightspark

You are a Bright shiny star my friend xx they look wonderful xx ♥♥♥ well done

Adam1618

WOW *!* EXCELLENT *** I'll need to place a order for 500 please !

Thanks, everyone. May you all stay safe and healthy as well.

nanapuzzler

Dearest friends, Thank you so much for your kind comments ♥♥♥♥ I have loved to sew since 7th grade (eons ago) and had all this fabric on hand and MANY more cheerful designs - didn't order any. I won't run out for months!
@Flowerchild12345 I, too, am glad your husband is getting masks and gloves for his work and sending prayers for your family's health and safety.

@robf Thanks so much for fixing my tag to my Rooster friend nanab :-)))
@Mooro4 Thanks Christy for the info on how to fix my photos *!*

nanab

@oynot - It wasn't me, our friend @nanapuzzler made these. : )

oynot

WOW! What talent you have @nanab these show the beautiful and loving heart you have for so many. Thank you for tagging me, it gives me hope that this virus will soon behind us. Also to thank the many lives you are saving.

redina1

You are making good use of your time, and the material makes them special. I'm sure everyone wo gets one will be very happy to have it.

nanab

nanapuzzler, Fantastic! How clever of you to use such cheerful fabric, these will lift spirits while keeping everyone safer. : )

Thanks Rob - I appreciate the tag fix.

sillychick

Awesome Twin, now that's the way to fill idle time & not be bored or lonely :)

robf

@nanab
nanapuzzler's tag for you had a space in there, in error... it wouldn't tag anyone that way. Easy enough to miss in such a comprehensive list.
So I thought I'd let you know.

What a splendid project, np! Bravo! I like the sky blue one with cloud and kites, the best.

Myhhrmaid

These are so cool!!! three cheers for you getting down and getting it done. Yup, I think they work real good when we are out and about. And they are pretty. :))

Jaynine

You go girl!

Mooro4

@Flowerchild12345 - I hope you and your family stay safe. Am glad your husband has masks and gloves coming his way. We're all grateful for folks like him who are helping during this time. Sending good health and well wishes...

Mooro4

@nanapuzzler - Nancy, these are wonderful!! Bless your heart. The lovely colors and patterns are so cheerful they take the edge off the sad reason for wearing them! I'm completely impressed! The silky ties look very comfortable.

As to shrinking your photos, if you Right-click photo, there should be an EDIT option. When you click that you should then see a RESIZE option. It will allow you to make the pics smaller. You can experiment by going down 50% and adjust up or down. For Jigidi I usually stick to around 800x800 (for smaller puzzles) to 1200x1200 pixels(sometimes 1400 depending on the pic). The photos that come off our cameras can be as high as 3,000-5000 pixels and way over what Jigidi can handle. I hope that will help. But, you did a great job on your printer! :))

Hugs, dear friend!! :))

Donnajames

Nancy, that is wonderful. Tomorrow I will be cutting up some old pillowcases and making some for my husband and myself along with our 85yo neighbor. As long as I have enough pillowcases I will continue making them and giving them out also. I used to have a ton of fabric but gave it all away years ago. For anyone who also wants to make them, look up how to make masks on the internet. They have directions for hand sewing, machine sewing and no-sew.

Thanks for helping the cause. My husband is working for the government helping at the convention center in New Orleans. I am so afraid he will get sick. The gov. didn,t even give them masks or gloves at first. My sister in making masks also, and is sending my husband 2 of them and gloves. She bought a bolt of some special material so hers are medical grade. I do not know what it is though.

nanapuzzler

Thanks friends!! I'm the kind of person who needs to be useful and I have enough fabric to sink a dinghy :))) I won't sell them - after family, I will give them to anyone who wants one next time I go to the grocery store. I would mail them to each of you if I could.

kmccarrel

Fantastic. I'm sure all are very thankful.

pasta

Wow, good on you!!!! :)
