“Check out this Overview of Downtown Chicago, Illinois, along the banks of Lake Michigan. The two neighborhoods shown here — The Loop and Near North Side — contain a majority of the city’s large commercial businesses, retail establishments, restaurants, hotels and famous attractions. Navy Pier, Grant Park, and the Cloud Gate sculpture (‘The Bean’) are all visible from this perspective.”

Thanks, that's okay. I enjoyed a ton of photos via google images.

I don't know enough about Chicago to offer a response, Gayle. Except you're welcome. ;-) Maybe the photo was taken during the lockdown. You can see more boats in the Google Maps satellite view, but still not as many as you were probably hoping for.

The water looks inviting. I thought I'd see more boats on the water but maybe most are too small to be see by an overhead view. Thanks, Bill!

Thanks, stunned.

I think someone posted the flamingo, I remembered doing the puzzle and being fascinated by the artwork. Looks as if the city sure has lots to see and enjoy. Nice overview.

Thanks for sharing all of those attractions!

Chicago is full of very interesting architecture, of which they are justly proud. There is a well-run architecture foundation that manages tours of notable buildings and areas. Their river tour is especially delightful, during which one encounters many different styles of bridges. And there is a lot of interesting "public" art. One of my favorites is a sculpture by Calder, named "Flamingo", in the plaza outside the Federal Building; and inside the lobby of the Federal Building is a maquette of the sculpture, accessible to visually challenged people, allowing them to enjoy it too. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flamingo_(sculpture)

I have not been in the city proper since I was a teenager, when I enjoyed the Field Museum of Natural History (including the coal mine) and planetarium. Since then I have mostly transited through one of its airports, which can be risky because of the weather!

It has been oh so many years since I have stopped in Chicago and looked around. I remember going to a museum that faced the water front. My brother and his wife lived there a few years after he graduated from college. And then, if you live in Minnesota and are going to travel by car eastward you are probably going to go through Chicago. In later years when I was living on the east coast I would go through southern Illinois to avoid having to pay fees to go through Chicago.
