Why are you reporting this puzzle?

I'm really not sure what kind of car this is, maybe one of the many experts here can help out. It was posted in the Westfalia Owners Group on Facebook, but this is no Westfalia that I am familiar with.

You hit the nail on the head. Exactly right. Except that I was bumbling along, blind as a bat with no plan at all. But it did all come together in the end. ☺

ekopug1

Wow, that's great, Pat. I'm glad it all came together for you. You definitely had some kind of clarity as to where you wanted to end up and went about making that happen! :-))

patsquire

In Trinidad, Colorado there's a Junior College, TJC that offers dozens of practical degrees from auto mechanics to hair dressing to electronics/computers to gunsmithing. It's the oldest and best gunsmithing school in the world. When I couldn't stand practicing small town law any more I wrote to every gun company in America and said I was a lawyer, a former Vietnam army officer and a Trinidad trained gunsmith. I had a new career in less than three months! ☺

ekopug1

You're welcome, PW. I'm happy to help whenever I can!! :-))

ekopug1

Pat, I didn't know that. So you were a gunsmithing major before you were in the Army, then law school? Without doubt it helps to have all the parts! :-))

ParsonWayne

Thank you. Eko,for the clear description in Chinese. That was a BIG help.

patsquire

Well, you know, I majored in gunsmithing in the mid-sixties so IF I CAN get it back together it does have to have all its parts!

ekopug1

Hi Pat, now that is determination! I admire his mechanical aptitude!! I'm the type of mechanic that usually has parts left over whenever I "fix" something! :-)

patsquire

@ekopug1

I come from mostly farm families in western New York, south of Buffalo. One of our family stories is that one of the men bought an early Ford, probably a Model T. He drove it into his barn and completely took it all apart, piece by piece. He studied all the parts, figured out how they worked together, how they made the car operate, and then put it all back together again. He said he would not drive it until he understood how it worked.

ekopug1

Yes, we are, Bubble! Catch you later. :o))

Bubble

At least we're all on the same page, or car - catch you later eko :-))

ekopug1

And we meet again . . . It is a 6-cylinder engine and I only see 3 pistons too. Maybe the Art Director or photographer decided there was not enough room to include the other 3 pistons and maintain the "artistic integrity" of the image!???

Bubble

My husband says he can only see 3 pistons ?

ParsonWayne

ptv, why would anyone be opposed to a six cylinder engine?

ekopug1

Interesting comment, PW. Could it be a matter of perspective and this "vehicle" is in the process of being reborn??? Reincarnation??? Thanks for your comment! :o)))

ParsonWayne

I would identify it as deceased (at the moment).

ekopug1

Thanks, pvt . . . yes, same opposed 6 cylinder engine type as Porsche.

ekopug1

Thanks, Irene, I think you've got it. That did not come up, or I didn't see it, when I googled the image. Good digging! However, much of what tazzy is saying holds true as well. It seems that Oettinger is all over the place with VWs.

Here is a video of that engine in a VW Vanagon:

Construction of the engine:

FWI, the largest stock engine in a VW Vanagon, to include Westfalias, is a 2.1 liter, 4 cylinder that generates 95 horsepower.

Jumble

If you right click on the picture, scroll down to search google for image, it will show you three different websites. One of them a 1988 VW T3 WBX 6 3,7 Oettinger.

Maybe a Porsche???? See it has an opposed 6 cylinder engine. Looks like the engine would be in the rear.......

it hasnt been done yet but i think it will be a good one when it is developed so to speak and your very welcome

ekopug1

Thank you, Tazzy, I had no idea . . . what a machine that is/will be! :o))

Volkswagen is currently developing the production version of the insane Golf R400 concept that was presented last year at the Beijing Motor Show. The company has not officially revealed when the super hatch will debut, however, and insiders hint it could be at least a year away.

For those who can’t wait that long, well-known German tuner Oettinger has introduced a hot-rodded Golf R that ups the ante with a tweaked 2.5-liter five-cylinder engine that makes 510 horsepower at 6,100 rpm and 501 foot-pounds of torque at 3,600 rpm. To put those numbers into perspective, a bone-stock U.S.-spec Golf R packs a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that generates 292 ponies and 280 lb-ft. of twist.

The straight-five is borrowed from the Audi parts bin. Oettinger has upgraded it with a large turbocharger, high-performance pistons, a new intake manifold, a heavy-duty cooling system with an intercooler, and a racing exhaust line. Linked to a six-speed manual transmission, the turbo five sends the 500R from zero to 62 mph in 3.4 seconds — on par with a Porsche 911 Turbo S not equipped with the optional Sport Chrono package — and on to a top speed of over 186 mph.

Here is what I found:

Thank you, Tazzy . . . unfortunately I am getting one of those beloved "404" messages. Let me see what I can find!! :o))
