@GeorgiaKayaker
Hi Richard,
I’m so sorry for my slow reply, I’ve been a little under the weather and not really at my sharpest. While you were recovering from your hip surgery, I sent you a comment, let’s see . . I think it was on your apple pie puzzle :) So that was our last ‘communication’. I’m so glad to hear you’re doing better :))
These bird houses, yes, they’re specifically for Martins, they prefer to live close. My grandfather had always enjoyed taking care of Martins with dried gourds on a tall pole, so it was fun to learn from him about these special birds! I’m like you and have the colorful yard birds, I have too many shade trees to attract Martins, maybe one day I can after I move. I don’t want this to get too long, so I’ll say good bye for now. Have a good rest of the day!

GeorgiaKayaker

Hi Tea. I just bought a new laptop so I've been gone for a short spell.
Great picture but I wondered what kind of birds lived that close. Martins. We have mostly red birds, blue birds and robins. I made some blue birds houses but they like to be 100 feet apart. Not as sociable as the Martins. Thanks for the puzzle.
Richard

@Heicel
You’re very kind to someone who’s chatted way too much today :) Yes, I believe Martins and Swallows are very similar. Have you seen a photo of dried gourds for Martins? A great nesting idea! It’s almost midnight there, so I’ll say “G’nite” :)

Heicel

@Teagardener Not at all!! I'm delighted to receive infos that otherwise are not readily available - so, thank you for that! I've looked for Martins and found pictures resembling our swallows - which in turn made the size of the birdhouses to me much easier to estimate! 😀

Teagardener

That’s interesting about the birdhouse designs :) Martin’s aren’t the most attractive birds, but gardeners and home owners like to have them around because they take care of mosquitoes, moths and other harmful insects. The key is to place their housing at the edge of an open area or by a lake. Now you know way more than you really wanted to know, lol :)

Heicel

@Teagardener Now that you mention it - yes, these houses could be found in Europe, probably the northern part. The ones with the round roof resemble 'Bergfried's, the roubd towers in medieval castles, only painted white. No I've git to fknd out what Martins are...😉

That is fine Tea, sometime you have to go into the real world. Working on flowerbeds is a good thing to do. I also am working on puzzles from over night. have fun with the boats.

I will.

Teagardener

@Ianto
I’m sorry I disappeared, had to leave Jigidi for a while. Thanks for the sweet comment question, I’m feeling better and after lunch I’ll enjoy puttering in the flowerbeds a bit :) Right now I’m taking a lunch break and will have fun with the puzzles. I haven’t even worked the boat puzzles yet :) Have a nice afternoon!

How are you tosay?

Teagardener

@Ianto
Good Morning :)

Morning Tea.

Teagardener

@Heicel
Hello :)
Thank you, I’m glad you like them! This photo was taken on the ocean coastline, but most likely it’s specifically built for Martins. These birds like this kind of housing, grouped together. It looks like the wind knocked off the one in the middle. I think the birdhouses have a very European look to them . . What do you think?

Heicel

Terrific birdhouses - they look so good I'd like to move in myself! Are they purely decoration or can they actually bee used by birds?
Anyway, thanks for this eye-delight!

I got a little bit of rain, not much.

Bit the wind comes and goes, I am alright.

sara34358

Be safe, my friends.

Teagardener

Good :)

I am, safe inside my apartment. I did what I had to do this morning. It is just weird outside.

It can happen. I am doing that.

Teagardener

@Ianto
I better hear that you’re in your ‘safe place’ and being smart! Praying for your safety :) I went outside to work with my topiaries when it was beautiful blue skies above, all of a sudden the sky is dark gray and a thunderstorm has rolled in! So, it’s a good chance to work puzzles till it goes away :))

Hi guys,

It might be a good thing that the shows were cancelled, Sara. Great for the puppy.

I have a tornado warning at the moment.

Teagardener

. . . And good morning Ianto :)

Teagardener

G’morning CLB, We’re happy to have you around again, but I’m sorry that some shows where cancelled, these things just happen. Tell that sweet dog I’m awfully proud of him !! That’s quiet an honor to be 1st :)

sara34358

Hi Tea and Ianto
Some of my dog shows were cancelled due to the wild fires burning
in B.C. Only essential travel, so will have to see if the other shows at the end of August will go ahead. My dog did some nice winning which put him #1 in Canada at this time.
Enjoying my time resting up for the next endurance phase. LOL

Hi Sara.

Teagardener

You might be tired from your traveling, we can chat another time . .
G’nite Sara :)

Teagardener

Thank you for the nice words and for working it!
How are the dog shows?

Teagardener

Hello Ladybug :))

sara34358

Very cute little bird village. Cheers from Sara

Teagardener

Hi Marina,
Besides the traditional metal box full of nesting holes for Martins, the bird houses in the photo are ‘acceptable’. My grandfather used to make birdhouses from dried gourds, grouped together, hanging from a tall pole. Mostly, it’s the Martins that don’t mind living so close to each other :) Lol, it resembles a “bird subdivision” . . .

MarinaNephele

Never seen a "neighbourhood" of birdhouses, they are delightful..

Just asking.

Teagardener

Funny Ianto :)

What is the rent for them?

JillianB

Definitely agree Tea 😊

Teagardener

Thanks Ms Jill, these Martin houses have a bit of European influence, don’t you think? :)

JillianB

Oh wow these are Fairy Tale Birdhouses. Super cute thanks Tea

Teagardener

Be extra careful Silver Florida Lady with the storms coming in! Might be a good time to do extra puzzles :)
G’nite

silverfox19134

@tea I never saw any Martin houses in any of my travels. I learned something new today. I'm fine thank you for asking. The weather channel is talking about a very strong tropical storm that will either come to the East Coast of Fl., or hit the West Coast of FL. We installed accordion sliding storm shutters that you just pull across all the windows and doors and come with a strong lock and key that hopefully the wind can't open , When all is closed you feel like you are living in a cave. Not one inch of sunlight can shine through. But so far we survived many storms and Hurricanes because of those shutters. Thank you for posting that lovely puzzle and have a good night. Linda

Teagardener

@silverfox19134
Hi Linda, how are you tonight? I’m glad you liked the Martin houses. I especially like the Victorian one on the right :) Thanks for working the puzzle.

silverfox19134

Tea.. These are very sophisticated birdhouses. It looks like it is a community of birds who share the houses. Very different and I love the different shapes of them. Thank you for posting them Linda

goingsilver

Ah, I'd wondered about that platform - that makes sense. ☺

Teagardener

Hi Lorna,
Yes they are and I’d love to have birdhouses this large! At first glance I thought the top middle was probably meant for an Osprey, but that doesn’t make sense, not at all. So my guess is it was for the fifth birdhouse and something happened. I remember this bird condo was on a ocean coastline, so the wind might have tumbled it off. Thanks for doing the puzzle :)

goingsilver

Now these look like top of the range birdhouses! Nice set Tea, thanks. Enjoy your day.

Teagardener

@smazik
Hello Frans,
How have you been? I’m glad you liked the puzzle and thank you for working it :)

smazik

Nice picture .

You are welcome.

Teagardener

. . . Thank you Ianto :)

Nice
