Now that I just read you had a '68, I'll add some details to my other comment. My BF Mike's car's color was Tropical Turquoise. It had a factory ordered 396, w/ a close ratio 4spd, and ran 456 gears. He later put the stock 327 in it, and it ran faster than the 396. Guys would challenge Mike to a race, and he'd say no, but I'll let you race my girlfriend. As a 16 year old, I could rip the gears! I actually never lost a race for him! He got such a charge out of the looks on his buddies faces. I was bitten by the racing bug. Got my own car the next year, a 65 GTO which we bored .30 over and had it blueprinted. I could go on..but 38 class trophies and 3 Eliminator trophies over four years...and all that was 50 years ago. Fun memories to look back on!
