Basking in the sun (and successfully obstructing the tramway) on Beamish Museum town street is this beautifully restored 1933 Leyland Cub KP2 with Brush body. The bus is ex-Crosville No.716, registered FM 7443.
The bus has been restored to this very high specification on behalf of the museum over the past seven years. The aim was to make available an authentic period vehicle to provide wheelchair access to visitors to the museum.
Externally the bus is restored to nearly original, except for the rear end which has been modified to accept an electric lift for wheelchair access. Internally the cockpit area is as original, but the remainder of the bus has been adapted, again to accept wheelchair bound visitors. However, it has been adapted in such a way that it could easily be restored to it's original passenger carrying specification later if required.
