Interesting from an ancient mariner born 1940. I once helped Europeans collect American horses to recover war that killed too many horses which at the time seemed to still vital for commerce in early automotive development.

very good figjam

Yes I got confused I meant the first one, I forgot to mention that. They say that as you get older two things happen, I can't for the llife remember what the second one is?. Thanks for checking Don.

SailorSam

@wrinkles but not this one Ed - she was a Cunarder launched in 1955

During the war she was an escort carrier for the American Navy before being transferred to the Royal Navy.

Thanks for your comment. I was'nt aware that there was second Fairsea. Cheers - Rob.

It is the 2nd Fairsea of Sitmar and is why I put 1984. It was owned by Fairsea Shipping. Sitmar is Società Italiana Trasporti Marittimi which is just Italian Society of Maritime Transport. The ship you are thinking of is this one (a ship I remember from Aden in the 60s)

Rio de la Plata 1941 13,432 Moore-McCormack Lines by Sun SB & DD Co, Chester
Charger 1941 US Navy
Fairsea 1949 Alvion SS Corp (Sitmar)
Fire scrapped La Spezia 1969

The photo is actually taken from the FAIRSKY passing her old fleetmate FAIRSEA off Cabo San Lucas in 1984. After the loss by fire in 1969 of the earlier vessel, this ship in the photo was renamed FAIRSEA

Is'nt that the Fairsea of the Sitmar line? I believe her engine room was damaged by fire in 1969 and she was then scrapped . I was briefly onboard her when she was in Sydney somehere in the late fifties, early sixties. I was a young boy and my parents and I went to see someone off. Elegant vessel, beautiful puzzle.
