Passion Flower

Thank you, alliebono. We have now four fruits and will probably get some more. We used to have a similar one in a far past, but never had the fruit so I'll look forward to their colour! x

Niks afgedekt of ingepakt, het is een winterharde plant en kan tegen behoorlijk wat vorst, alleen die Siberische kou was en beetje over de top, hoewel...uiteindelijk heeft zij en alle vaste planten het gelukkig overleefd en lijken het zelfs nog beter te doen dan andere jaren! ☺♥

Blij dat m'n geheugen een beetje klopte:)) En ook blij dat deze de koudeperiode overleefd heeft. Je weet nu dus dat ze blijkbaar wel ergens tegen kunnen. Je had 'm wel beschermd tegen de kou? afgedekt? beetje ingepakt?
En mooi dat de stek het ook goed doet☺♥

Dank je!! Vragen staat vrij!☺ Deze was een stek die Liertje van een kameraad had gekregen en nadat hij hem in zijn kasje had laten overwinteren hij heeft hem in de voorste rotstuin geplant. Daar bloeide hij meteen al het eerste jaar en vorig jaar weer. Begin dit jaar met de vreselijke koude periode dachten we dat de plant het loodje had gelegd, maar hij had in elk geval een stek (zo'n 20 cm naast de plant opgekomen) voorzichtig uitgegraven en in een potje geplant en ook weer in zijn kasje laten overwinteren. Nu heeft hij deze ook geplant - een stukje naast de andere- waar tot twee jaar terug mijn prachtige witte Clematis "Arctic Queen" jarenlang heeft gebloeid, maar vorig jaar door e.o.a. gulzig ongedierte helemaal weggevreten. De twee sprietjes die opkwamen gaven als bloemknopjes en zijn finaal met de grond gelijk gemaakt!:((
Bij het graven voor een plekje voor de nieuwe Passiflora stek heeft Liertje helemaal niks meer teruggevonden van de Clematis. Maar enfin, de plant was wel in de stress geschoten door de kou, maar heeft zich fantastisch hersteld en ziet er heel gezond uit en vol knoppen en bloemen in spé.
De witte Passiflora waar jij het over hebt heb ik 3 jaar geleden te vroeg in het seizoen gesnoeid en de wonden zijn toen met de Siberische Beer van 2018 bevroren en de plant heeft het helaas niet overleefd!

Ergens in mijn achterhoofd heb ik een vage herinnering : jij had toch een passiebloem tegen de schutting? en er was iets mee. Dan is dit dus niet dezelfde? Was die andere witter?
Sorry van al die vragen. Maar als ik het niet vraag blìjf ik het me waarschijnlijk een tijdje afvragen :)))

I love the Passion flower

I remember reading or hearing somewhere that this is called Passion Flower because it represents the passion of Christ - parts of the flower - the crown of thorns, the nails & wounds & the disciples but I can't quite remember what's what! I think the three stamens are the nails, the five anthers represent the wounds, & the petals are the disciples but I count only ten petals not 12 or eleven. Perhaps someone can enlighten me?

Thank you, GG. Today there were nine of them, yesterday six and the day before that four! Unfortunately they'll only last one day, but every day some buds will open, that way the plant looks constantly in bloom for some time! ☺
It's also interesting to stay and watch after the bud opens....it's like a time-lapse of about 20 minutes to see it becomes a flower!

Liertje has also planted a seedling from this plant (it had come up 20 cm. next to this one), but as it's from the same 'roots' I'm not sure whether they can fertilize and give fruit. Maybe there should be 'new blood' needed for that! BTW this would at least take another year to find out as this new seedling is still small and probably won't bloom this year yet.
After the Siberian cold and a week of a thick layer of snow earlier this year, the plant turned brown and seemed dead, but Liertje recently cut off the brown parts.....a wonderful full healthy looking plant with buds as a result!
He's really got a green thumb....much greener than mine! :-))

Thanks, Faye, it are intriguing flowers. No, we didn't get fruit. Liertje's mate however, (of whom he got the cut from) does get fruit. He does also have another Passiflora in his garden, hence the fertilization!❤️❤️❤️

I was just thinking about the Passion Flower plant the other day. I wonder if this will be the year for it to produce a few fruit? I'm glad it survived the cold and came back to give you such unusual flowers!

Thanks, Anne, we thought the plant hadn't made it after the bitterly cold earlier this year, we left it like it was and decided to wait and see, but it has completely come back looking very healthy and full of buds! :)

I remember this from last year! It's the most curious and interesting plant for all it's types of petals and leaves. Very fancy!
