redina1

@Dclo I didn't see her today. I hope I didn't scare her away after all the work they did to set up housekeeping.

redina1

Very interesting!

Deanna

Robin, we look forward together to the news about growling mice ♥:))

Deanna

Nanab you are right, nature is fascinating and I am very much looking forward to your experience with the new discovery of a mouse that growls, I really have not heard it yet. I will be very happy if you´ll write to us about it, thank you in advance and I send you a greeting ♥:))
@nanab

LOL redina1, it's your puzzle and an open forum.
Remember, I am the fly on the wall!

redina1

I enjoyed 'eavesdropping' in on your conversation. Very interesting, and so sad for the birds that are being used, and their babies. A growling mouse? That's another new one on me.

nanab

Thanks @Deanna - no apology necessary, I enjoyed reading about your experience. I find the oddities in nature fascinating.
I just found out today that there is a mouse that growls to protect its territory and food source, I can't wait to research that one! lol

Deanna

nanab thank you for your perfect description and explanation for Robin. That's right, the cuckoo is an aggressive bird that acts like a parasite. When we had a nest of robins, I had no idea what would happen. I only found out when the cuckoo began to grow in the nest, which was huge compared to the size of adult robins. It is generally said that an adult cuckoo lays its eggs in foreign nests. In our case, it was not possible and I think that brought it there with its beak, because the space with the nest was so small that an adult cuckoo would not fit there. At that time, I read in a professional magazine that seeing the education of a young cuckoo is a very unique experience, people rarely have the opportunity to do so. We were lucky to see it. Jang cuckoo was blackand gray and her beak was fiery red inside, and the robins were under constant stress, still flying and carrying insects, and the cuckoo still had the red greedy beak open. Forgive me for the long text, I wanted to describe my experience
@nanab

nanab

When the cuckoo chick is born it kicks other baby birds out of the nest.
There are videos of them but I don't want to watch it.

redina1

What a terrible mother!! That's really awful. Thanks for the info.

nanab

The common cuckoo is an obligate brood parasite; it lays its eggs in the nests of other birds. At the appropriate moment, the hen cuckoo flies down to the host's nest, pushes one egg out of the nest, lays an egg and flies off. The whole process takes about 10 seconds. A female may visit up to 50 nests during a breeding season.

redina1

How did the cuckoo get in the robin's nest? It's good that they raised it. It will be a fun spring keeping an eye on this little family. Thanks. :)

Deanna

Robin, thank you for your beautiful photos, is an experience to see the nest and its inhabitants online. I once had so close a robin nest in which grew up a small cuckoo. The poor "parents" were so tired of her eternal hunger. It wasn't long took a long time and the young cuckoo was three times bigger than adult robins. Eventually she flew out of the nest, sat down in the yard and my dog was terribly scared, it was a big theater. Then several years in a row she always came back in the spring and greeted us with her strong voice ♥:))

redina1

Thanks, Pat, Judy and Kossamu. She must have put something soft on the inside to make in cozy. I think we can live without using the ladder -- it's been sitting idle for months. It's good to see it put to good use. :)

Juba1010

Looks well engineered. Hope you don’t need the ladder for a while. :-)

pkin38

Thank Robin .. Interesting puzzle ..

redina1

I know. I startled her a while back when she was bringing a stick in, and she dropped it. That's when I first noticed her. I've been keeping an eye on her progress, and look forward to seeing her babies. It's a good protected place for a nest. Thanks, Pat.

pkin38

Makes you wonder how they can bring all the big pieces to make the nest .. Wonderful picture .. Hugs

redina1

Thanks. I'll pass your good wishes on the Mrs. Mockingbird. :)

nanab

Happy Earth Day! (•‿•) ♡

redina1

This is one of the benefits of having time on our hands. We get to see nature in action. Thanks for your interest. :)

nanab

I can see her in this pic, I'm still amazed at how strong she must me.
Thanks redina1.
I showed Hubby, he's never seen one and he was surprised too.

redina1

@pkin38 This is very messy, but effective.

redina1

No, I didn't. I do enjoy the variety in our mockingbirds' songs. Thanks.

megabelle2000
