In 1980, the Indian Government created the park, which in 2002, was recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Valley of Flowers National Park is an Indian national park, located in North Chamoli and Pithoragarh, in the state of Uttarakhand and is known for its meadows of endemic alpine flowers and the variety of flora. This richly diverse area is also home to rare and endangered animals, including the Asiatic black bear,[1] snow leopard,[1] musk deer,[1] brown bear, red fox[1] and blue sheep. Birds found in the park include Himalayan monal pheasant and other high altitude birds.[2]

At 3352 to 3658 meters above sea level, the gentle landscape of the Valley of Flowers National Park complements the rugged mountain wilderness of Nanda Devi National Park to the east.[3] Together, they encompass a unique transition zone between the mountain ranges of the Zanskar and Great Himalaya. The park stretches over an expanse of 87.50 km2 and it is about 8 km long and 2 km wide.[2] The park lies completely in the temperate alpine zone. Both parks are encompassed in the Nanda Devi Biosphere Reserve (223,674 ha) which is further surrounded by a buffer zone (5,148.57 km2).[4] Nanda Devi National Park Reserve is in the UNESCO World Network of Biosphere Reserves.

The park is open only during summer from June to October and it is covered by heavy snow for the rest of the year.[1]

Field of Flowers

Let me, let me know what makes you happy
And I'll do it over, over and over again

Let me, let me know just how you love me
And we'll spin around again in this field of flowers we're in

I wish to quote from Whitman now
To show the way I feel, I feel about you
Oh about you
Because it's a subtle electric fire you light in me
Every time I see you
So let's dance again in this field of flowers we're in

These lyrics are so frivolous they really have no meaning
But I wrote them for you
And anywhere I would be with you
No matter where, but for now we're here
So let's spin around again in this field of flowers we're in

Let's spin again in this field of flowers we're in.

A magic foto, made especially intense by the figure of a human in the midst of all this beauty, seemingly filling his/her eyes with it.
Why, oh why can't we all do this with nature's wonders?!
Thanks for a magical minute!

dhi

I agree with you, dj, a purpose-built area, truly a wonderful celebration.

Donnajames

How wonderful that man has created something beautiful for all to enjoy instead of destroying what nature has given us to behold. :-)) dj

dhi

dhi

Yes, I thought it deserved another kick at the can. Have a good weekend.

I posted a puzzle of this same mountain only with a broader view not long ago. Because this is a close-up, the flowers are more distinctive.
