I'm just happy to be on the board! I don't understand at all how some people can be so much faster. My fingers would catch on fire! :-)

schutkleur

Could be canoekaw. And I don't think the plants are a thread to insects :)

schutkleur

:))) If PaxLab also stops by Ginni you may drop another place on the board. But we don't begrudge them their top places, do we? :))))

schutkleur

Anne : Queen Anne's Lace usually grows from one to two feet high, maybe sometimes a little bit higher but not by much.

canoekaw

Red Admiral butterflies use all members of the Urticaceae (nettles) family as their host plant. I guess they like noxious or obnoxious plants.

Ginni2

Yep, was #1 until liertje showed up with his magic fingers. :-)

Atsutsa

@schutkleur Thank you for the information.....I'm pretty much not going to touch them if I ever see them. In my "kids" memory Queen Anne's Lace grew to be around 2 feet tall...don't know if I've remembered from the adult perspective.

schutkleur

Thanks Anne.
Hogweed is not the same as Queen Anne's Lace though. Queen Anne's Lace we call 'wild carrot' and is much smaller. This common hogweed can grow up to about two yards, which is nothing compared to the Giant hogweed, which can grow up to at least four yards high. Both are dangerous though. The hairs on their stems can cause itching, the sap in the stem is even worse and can cause severe burns. Never touch hogweed!!!
In the link you can see more common hogweed :

It's also called cow parsnip twosparrows, is that better?? :)))
I love the flowers too, in the link you can see more of them :

schutkleur

Thank you canoekaw!! :))

schutkleur

Thanks Ginni!!
Yes, it's a lovely butterfly, and very common at the moment. About 80% of the butterflies I'm seeing these days is red admiral.
Looks like you had your skates on again. I'm guessing you were #1 for a while, untill liertje came along?? :))))

Atsutsa

That may be common hog weed, but that's far from a common butterfly. He's gorgeous. The hog weed look like what I learned was Queen Anne's Lace?

What a horrible name 'hogweed' is for this delicate confection! I'm glad the red admiral
saw its real worth!

canoekaw

She really did like you Ginni. It is a lovely butterfly and a very good photo of her or him.

Ginni2

Such a lovely butterfly! And so nice of her to like me, as my butterflies are not so kind. :-)
