Princess Tarakanova
Why are you reporting this puzzle?
"Prinzessin Tarakanow" (1862)
Princess Tarakanova (c. 1745–1775) is the fictitious name of a woman claiming to be the daughter of Alexei Razumovsky and Empress Elizabeth of Russia. In real life, she went by the names Princess of Vladimir, Fräulein Frank, and Madame Trémouille. The word Tarakan in Russian means "cockroach."
Empress Catherine II had Tarakanova arrested in Tuscany in 1775 and taken to Russia, where she was imprisoned. She reportedly died of tuberculosis there, but legends hold she lived until 1810 in a convent under an assumed name, or was killed in a flood in 1777. Films and plays have been written about her life.
