1944 Bedford MWD Cargo Truck
Standing on the events field at Beamish Museum is this 1944 Bedford MWD Army Truck, UK registered VAD 454.
The iconic Bedford MW was a 15cwt general service truck used by the British Armed Forces during the Second World War. Between 1939 and 1945 Bedford produced over 66,000 MWs, and the vehicles remained in British service until the late 1950s.
Oddly, this particular example is carrying US Army livery and fleet number Z5296252. It may well be that the US Army did have some of these vehicles, but it doesn't seem very likely!
