In the 80's I went here to Byron's all the time to get my authentic Chicago polish sausage. They were so tasty, so addictive! I cut thru the alley from my greystone and popped right into the stand. Hmmm? Do I want one or two? Give me two with everything. I still remember the taste, smell, and feel of biting into that sausage made by Vienna Beef with that firm snap. That yellow mustard, the neon relish, tomato slices, diced onions, kosher pickle spear, sport peppers, & the celery salt all encased in a beautiful steamed poppy seed bun. So now after being ensconced in the burbs for eons I cannot find a Chicago polish that does justice. Year after year all the local stands - no go. What do I do? Easy. Go to Byron's. It's still there and still looks the same so hey, it's gotta taste the same. Give me three - no, four - with everything.

Brrrr! What is it with Southerners and snow & ice? It happens every year. Just kidding, Richard. I know how the weather works from region to region and how prepared all may or may not be. But I do know a difference. In some Southern states the snow & ice means bad driving conditions and maybe close schools and work. Here the snow & ice means get up early, clean the walk & the car, and go to school or work. Sam

@scifi72 Memories are the greatest and most cherished gifts we learn in life and I will never forget how cold it was when I was in Great Lakes and visited Chicago in the winter.

It was a good time - living in the city and being a Chicagoan - finding myself. I am sure that Atlanta and Georgia hold the same gems for you and a boatload (kayak loads?) of memories. I love being a Midwesterner and I know you're a proud Southerner. It's good all around. I only wish we had White Lily Flour available here. To add to my experience Byron's was about one-half mile from Wrigley Field. Nothing like walking to Byron's and hearing the roar from the crowd during the baseball games. Go, Cubbies! Byron's is also right by Graceland Cemetery where since 1860 many prominent Chicagoans are interred. Man, the memories!

Most memorable sausage sandwich was in Vienna, Austria from a street vendor on the corner across from the Opera House.
Glad you had many wonderful meals & memories from Byron's
Thanks for the puzzle

I lived a few blocks away on Southport, and came here often. Great eats!

Have eaten here, great hot dogs and more, simple foods just like when you were a kid. Used to live around the corner from this Byrons so experienced their food many times. If ever in Chicago you gotta try this quaint old hot dog spot.
