That's hilarious!

And if you have a cat who understands English, you're in line for a Nobel! :-D

@laskadog1 - I've never had a sense of smell, so I've never had attached any emotions to farts; but I understand that dog farts are pretty rank. I've also always had gratitude from boyfriends, lol.

Give Maui a scratch on the head for me!

mauismom

@Mischka - okay, i believe most cats don't get embarrassed. i also know they get mad. Maui is f.a.t. (too much food from family the 2 years i was in hospitals). when i got home, i told her she had to lose weight because she was too fat. she spun around and hissed at me while she scratched the heck out of my arm and then hid for hours. she is now fluffy and i've stopped her twice from attacking others (she still hisses) when they have told her she's fat. my family doesn't bother her unless she approches them.

Fiona you're right about the dog farts.Laska used to sit on the back of the couch looking out the window and one day he farted quite noisily which was very rare. But he turned around to look at his rear end to see where it came from, jumped off the couch and ran out of the room.It was hilarious! It only happened once.Sometimes if friends were over and would sneak him people snacks I used to say Feed Him At Your Own Risk because that would give him SBD's.chuckles, Hilary.

@scifi72, hello again!

I will find a picture of an Italian sausage sandwich with proper onion rings, and post a puzzle! To remind you of your dining experience.

I don't know Michael Pollan, but he's right on the mark. And no need at all to pay me, besides showing up once in a while, so that we know you're okay.

(We've had a string of worries re missing friends this year - @myself1935, are you there??)

Glad you liked the puzzle! I gave up burgers long ago, but I still crave them, which is why I make so many puzzles of them. Also glad that you know that burgers ARE sandwiches. :-)

I'm going to put on my cat expertise hat, in order to relieve you of guilt.

There is no scientific evidence at all that cats feel embarrassment. (Dogs might.) Cat brains (physical) and cat psychiatry are hot scientific topics these days, and I read all the articles I can find.

When they lose balance and fall, what they most likely feel is fear. After the fall, you might see them licking themselves or walking away, or some other action that humans read as "I'm fine; nothing to see here!" What I see is self-soothing behavior. They want to shake off the fear, and unnecessary licking is a calming behavior.

So it's all right to laugh. The cat doesn't know what a laugh means. (Dogs might.) Besides, laughter is a natural reaction to something abrupt and unpleasant - it's another self-soothing behavior!

You are both good moms to your cats, to partake in their feelings and spare them further anxiety. But really, don't worry about laughing.

And cat stories are endlessly fun, no matter what the behavior was, LOL!

Peggy, I remember one cat I had that was on the bed with me. She let off a very loud fart...with a shock on her face she looked at her rear end and then at me. I just burst out laughing. Oh, an embarrassed and hurt look came over her face, she jumped down from the bed and left the room. It took me hours to get her to 'like' me again. *lol*

mauismom

@Donnajames oh, definitely, no peppers. Penny

I'm sitting here waiting for my Italian sausage on an Italian roll with giardiniera plus fried onion rings made with cut onion rings (not minced). But what am I doing? Looking at a delicious hamburger puzzle that I just solved. Mmmmmm! Hamburgers are my all-time favorite sandwich. All American all the way but only homemade qualifies or from a restaurant/grill who knows what a hamburger is. NOT fast food because they serve only “edible, food-like substances” as Michael Pollan terms it. So @Mischka, like Wimpy, I'll gladly pay you Tuesday for a hamburger today.

Donnajames

Peggy, that is so funny. I understand not to laugh because it embarrasses them, but it is so hard not to.

Leave off the peppers and I would be a happy camper! Looks good enough to eat!!! :-)) dj

@Mischka-haven't done this puzzle yet, but had to share a laugh. i just took my lunch out of the microwave and brought it into the living room. Maui was waiting on the couch and decided to do her begging/i'm so pretty routine. she rolled over on her back and rolled off the couch. i don't dare laugh at her, she's already upset that I let her fall on her back. all she wanted was some people food.

laskadog1

I'm drooling! So much bacon!
